Jan. 28, 1974 – PROUDLY WE SALUTE…

Marine Cpl. Brad L. Bleckwenn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Bleckwenn of Star Route, Sandpoint, has reported for duty at the Marine Corps Base at Camp Lejeune, N.C. A 1971 Sandpoint High School graduate, he joined the Marine Corps in Oct., 1971.  

Navy Fireman Daniel J. Boyle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Boyle of Sandpoint, has reported for duty aboard the USS Enterprise, an attack aircraft carrier homeported at Alameda, Calif. A 1972 SHS graduate, Boyle joined the Navy in August, 1972.

SANDPOINT BUYS LAND FROM BANK

Sandpoint City Clerk Dave Easton signed a $85,000 check Friday, completing the purchase by the city of the remaining portion of the Old Farmin School block from the Idaho First National Bank. The area will be developed into a downtown parking lot. Mayor Les Brown called the purchase “a fine thing for this city,” saying that the land was purchased with revenue sharing money made available by the federal government.

MRS. BONAR NAMED TO PLANNING BOARD

Sandpoint Mayor Les Brown has appointed Mrs. Mary Bonar to the city planning and zoning commission after the retirement of Mrs. Hazel Hall. A Sandpoint native, Mrs. Bonar said, “I am glad to have the opportunity to serve the city.”

Jan. 28, 1949 – WINTER MAINTAINS GRIP

Temperatures were climbing Wednesday and it began to snow immediately, indicating that possibly there will be some respite from the zero and below cold weather which has prevailed throughout the region most of this month. There have been 18 days of subzero weather so far this winter, 13 in January. A stiff wind Friday, Saturday and Sunday played hob with nearly all side roads, especially the east-west roads north and east of Sandpoint, the Dufort road, the Midas road and the roads in the Hoodoo valley.

SAGLE NEWS

The social activities of the past week were at a minimum, with everyone busy shoveling paths and driveways and keeping fires going to prevent frozen plumbing. The temperature was 18 below Thursday.

The school was dismissed Wednesday morning soon after the pupils arrived, so all were able to get to their homes in spite of the blizzard. There was no school the rest of the week and Monday of this week but it was planned to reopen the school Tuesday. 

Mr. Horner was unable to get any further than the Jim Peterson place on the Morton loop of his mail route Saturday and Monday.

BIRTHDAY IS CELEBRATED

For her 16th birthday, Firle Selle entertained the Misses Patty Sanders, Dorothy Warren, Shirley Bates and Patty Napier at a waffle supper Jan. 21 at her home. The guests enjoyed games and musical recordings and later attended the basketball game.
