May 12, 1974 – MESERVES NOTE 25TH

The Chatterbee Club held an open house Apr. 28 in the Selle Grange hall to honor the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Meserve, with 85 friends and relatives present. The cake, decorated by Mrs. Bill Hall, was served by Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Gene Saunders; Mrs. Vern Shadel poured punch; Mrs. Robert Wood poured coffee; Mrs. Robert Murray had charge of the guest book. The Meserves were married Apr. 16, 1949 in the Sandpoint United Methodist Church, with Carl Meserve Jr. and Jean Piehl as their attendants. They have two children, Guy, 19, a student at DeVry Institute in Phoenix, Ariz., and Becky, 13, a Northside School 7th grader.

INSTALL NEW OFFICERS

Sen. James Stoicheff was guest speaker at the Bonner-Boundary Retired Teachers’ luncheon at the Pastime Apr. 25, when new officers were installed. Mabel Cash, outgoing president, presented the gavel to Hazel Moon, the new president. This gavel was given to the association by Blanche Senft when it was formed four years ago. Other new officers are Doris Geier, vice president; Eleanor Miller, secretary; and Esther Weaver, treasurer. Ruby Phelps is committee chairman.

VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS OFFICERS

New officers of VFW Post 2453 are Arlie Kellogg, commander; Bill Thacker, junior vice; Paul Loman, sgt. at arms; Gene Saunders, quartermaster; Duane Leonard, judge advocate; and Ray Trestor, trustee.

Due to the necessity of complying with the City Council Ordinance to move livestock out of the City of Sandpoint we are compelled to discontinue our Wednesday sale at the OK Sale Yard [Division & Oak] until further notice. John Schell, O.T. Booher.

HOSPITAL DISPLAYS

In observance of National Hospital week, the Community hospital staff is presenting scenes of the work done and equipment used, in various business windows. At Flye’s Rexall drug store [First & Main] may be seen a model of a child being treated for a fracture. Haviland’s window [Havie’s Grocery, 109 N. First] is a general display. In the Furniture Exchange window [301 Cedar] may be seen the oxygen tent set up. The oxygen setup for babies is in the Baby Shop window [310 N. First]. A nursery is set up in the J.C. Penney store window [102 Cedar]. The Fair Lady [Panida Theater Bldg.] and Marjeans [325 N. First] each display uniformed nurses.

SELLE NEWS

Friday’s miscellaneous shower in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Stanford Meserve was a grand success, with 75 friends gathering at Selle Grange hall. Games were played and the couple was given many lovely gifts. Along with a lunch of sandwiches, fruit salad and coffee, a large wedding cake was served.
