Old school Sandpoint handball in the house (Photo by ERIC PLUMMER) Local Dave Turner, pictured hitting a serve recently, has been playing handball in Sandpoint for more than 35 years. Sandpoint has always had a fluctuating but strong core group of players, who fill a few courts with doubles twice a week during open handball. Per handball tradition, the action is often followed by a post match beer. Turner is one of two “Doctor Daves” who squared off last week on the court. One, Dave Cousino, is an actual MD, while Turner earned his nickname by performing surgery from the service box, where his serves hug the walls and are difficult to return. He was asked what he loves most about handball. “Camaraderie; that’s the biggest thing,” said Turner. “The exercise, the competition, the sportsmanship.”
