Sandpoint Future AAU club basketball tryouts open

(Photo courtesy of JOHN AEXEL) The Sandpoint Future boys basketball team takes a group photo after winning the Rally in the Valley Tournament on March 16. The Sandpoint Future AAU team will hold tryouts for all area kids interested in playing competitive club basketball on Aug. 25 and Sept. 15.

The Sandpoint Future AAU club basketball team, the only AAU team this side of Coeur d’Alene, will hold its tryouts on Sunday, Aug. 25 and Sunday, Sept. 15 at Sandpoint High School. All players from grades three through eight are welcome from Clark Fork over to Priest River and everywhere in between to join in the only AAU accredited club basketball program in north Idaho.

The 7th and 8th grade tryouts are this Sunday, Aug. 25 at Sandpoint High School, so quick action is recommended. Girls will be from 6-7 p.m. with the boys following from 7-8 p.m.

Tryouts for 3rd through 6th graders will be later this fall on Sept. 15 at SHS. Girls will go from 6-7 p.m. and boys will follow at 7-8 p.m. as well.

Staring in November, league play will be in Post Falls every Saturday through January. There will be practices two to three times per week in Sandpoint starting Sept 30.

In addition to the Post Falls league, teams will play in two or three tournaments.

This past season, Sandpoint Future teams participated in tournaments located in Lewiston, Hayden, and even in Missoula and Libby, Montana. The number of tournaments are determined by coaches and player availability.
