COEUR D’ALENE — Thirteen Sandpoint swimmers are state bound.

The Bulldogs’ girls team ran away with the district title at the 4A Region 1 championships Wednesday inside the Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene while the boys took second to Moscow.

The girls beat second place Moscow by 111 points to secure the district title and the boys finished 39.5 points behind the first place Bears.

The Bulldogs had eight individuals and three relays on the girls side qualify for state and four individuals and one relay from the boys earn a berth to state.

The first and second place finishers in each of the 16 individual events at the district meet secured a spot to state along with the relay teams that took first. There are also at-large bids still available to the next three fastest 4A times in each event.

Senior Mikayla Schoening and junior Kate Bokowy led the charge for the girls. Schoening won the 50 free, 100 free and was apart of the first place 200 free and 400 relay teams. Bokowy swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams and captured the title in the 200 IM and 100 fly.

Junior Autumn Morgan also had a strong showing placing first in the 100 breast and second in the 100 fly along with contributing to two of the relay victories for the Bulldogs.

Freshman Ayiana Prevost claimed a pair of individual events as well in the 200 free and 500 free.

The boys team was led by sophomores Hayden Leavitt and Aidan Nielsen, junior Jake Aitken and freshman Caleb Norling who helped the Bulldogs secure first in the 200 free relay. Caleb also won the 200 IM and 100 free while his brother, Hayden Norling, took second in the 200 free.

Aitken captured the 50 free while Nielsen claimed the 100 fly to wrap up the individual victories for the boys at districts.

Sandpoint will now have a week to get ready for the 4A state championships Nov. 7-8 at the Boise Aquatic Center.
