24 Top Dog wrestlers medal at Panhandle Championships

Sandpoint Top Dog wrestling competed in a pair of events over the past two weeks.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, the Top Dogs hosted the Panhandle Championships for the North Idaho Wrestling League at Sandpoint High School.

The Top Dogs had 48 wrestlers take part in the event and 24 of them walked away with medals. Colton Corey was the only Sandpoint wrestler to claim first in an event as he captured the Bantam 43A title.

The Top Dogs also secured eight runner-up finishes and a trio of third place results.

A total of 569 wrestlers competed in the Panhandle Championships this year, which is an NIWL all-time record.

On Nov. 9, the Top Dogs traveled to Lakeland High School to take part in the Battle for the North Tournament.

Sandpoint took 31 wrestlers to the tourney and 20 of them earned medals. Drew Knowles (Intermediate 71B), Jonah Snyder (Bantam 49C) and Shane Sherrill (Middle School 119) all claimed first in their respective weight classes while eight other Top Dogs secured second place results.
