Evelyn Virdie Chase, 88

| February 18, 2005 8:00 PM

Evelyn Virdie Chase, 88, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, in Kootenai, Idaho.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Evelyn was born on Jan. 27, 1917, in Los Angeles, Calif., the daughter of Louis and Nora (Hickombotten) Dee. She grew up in Southern California and married her high school sweetheart, Rueben Chase.

They had their own business, "Chase's Avocado Hut," in Duarte, Calif., in 1938. It was located on old Route 66, and they sold juices, nuts and fruit. Her daughters, Evelyn and Mary, eventually moved Evelyn to Sandpoint, Idaho.

Evelyn loved North Idaho and loved watching the snow fall and gazing out at the beautiful tree-covered mountains from her window. Our mother was very happy, feisty, fun-loving, compassionate and giving and always took time to listen to others. She gave to many charities.

Her last residence was at Beehive Homes in Kootenai, where she enjoyed reading, watching TV, teasing and joking around with the owners, residents and the staff, who all took such good care of our mother.

Evelyn was much loved by her family and brought such joy to us all. She will be missed beyond words. The one thing she would want others in this life to remember is to try to think of other people first and to contribute something of yourself to help make this a better world.

Evelyn is survived by four children, Evelyn Mansfield, Mary Gore, Mike Chase and Judy Chase; her sons-in-law, Don Mansfield and Jerry Gore; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Chase; her cherished grandsons, Rick Chase (and wife, Debbie) and Michael Wasney Chase, who preceded her in death; her granddaughters, Christina Chase and Jackie Petrovic; and her great-grandchildren, Ricki Leigh Chase, Ryan Michael Chase, Chase Lindquist and Alek Petrovic.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
