Harvey was born on March 31, 1914, in Aberdeen, S.D., the son of Nicholas and Pauline (Rand) Brothers. During the depression, he worked at the Black Hills CCC Camp and later found work as a core driller on the Fort Peck Dam in Montana. While at Fort Peck Dam, he completed a correspondence course on aircraft engine maintenance.

During a winter in the 1930s, and against a friend's advice, Harvey quit core drilling and rode his Harley Davidson to California to look for work as an aircraft mechanic. He found a job with Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, Calif. working on the flight line. He worked for Lockheed in a number of capacities, the last of which was their research and development facility near Santa Cruz, Calif., from which he retired in 1978.

Harvey married Marilyn Louise Kauffman on May 21, 1949, and together they raised two sons and a daughter. Following Harvey's retirement, they moved to Sandpoint in 1979.

Harvey served periodically as elder, Sunday school teacher and organist for the Kootenai Community Church in Kootenai.

Music was his hobby and, for a number of years, he played his banjo and accordion with the Old Time Fiddlers in Sandpoint.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Nanette Brothers and their two daughters, Michelle and Pauline, of Sandpoint; son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Tracy Brothers and their four daughters, Amy, Kristy, Nicole and Laura of Durango, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Eric Helmick and their five children, Elya, Natasha, Hunter, Tatiana and Takoda of Tehachapi, Calif. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be made to the Cross Bar X Youth Ranch, 2111 County Rd. 222, Durango, Colo., 81303.

Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
