May exposure to truth set talk show host free

| January 11, 2006 8:00 PM

Recently I found myself worrying about my political leaning. This is due to finding myself agreeing with much of the dialogue that has been presented the last few months on the Mark Fuhrman radio show on KGA 1510 AM. Previously, I had judged much of Mr. Fuhrman's rhetoric to be what I consider right-wing.

I support crusades that are directed toward correcting inequities one finds in life. Politically, I label myself a social capitalist. That puts me right of Lenin and far left of the present American administration.

In the past I have felt Mr. Fuhrman was attempting to appeal to the same audience that follows the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Ingrahm, O'Reilly, etc., and their extreme right-wing, less than factual, dogma.

Lately Mr. Fuhrman has engaged in a non-partisan campaign against corrupt politicians and subversive practices they engage in dealing with the people of Spokane city and county. He also presently is attempting to educate people on the pitfalls of credit cards and to the usurious and calculated, despicable practices of some banks and credit card companies.

I applaud this direction he has concentrated his energies toward. It is a refreshing turn away from the usual right-wing talking points and parroting rhetoric of most talk shows today. I pray he continues on this path. I also hope he has an iron-clad contract with KGA. If not, I fear he will be pressured to change direction from educator and defender of the peoples' right to know to one of right-wing pawn else he finds himself out on the street.

My instincts move me to believe that Mr. Fuhrman is his own man and not open to coercion. Politically, I believe we are still far apart. However, I think his wish is to serve the common good and leave a positive imprint on society. I doubt there is a possibility of redemption for the previous talk show hosts I mentioned.

Perhaps future exposure to and experiences with a more center viewpoint will penetrate Mr. Fuhrman's tough exterior, and he will see the truth and that truth will set him free. This done, all will prosper from his conversion.
