Bulldogs receive IEL honors

| November 6, 2006 8:00 PM

Kurt Stoll was named Offensive MVP, Riley Flanigan Offensive Lineman of the Year and Mike Mitchell Coach of the year as the Inland Empire League announced the 4A All-League teams. For the first time, the IEL differentiated between 5A and 4A, largely because Sandpoint was the only 4A team to face all of the league opponents.

Flanigan played center, making all of the calls and anchoring an offensive line that by the end of the season was a strength of the team.

"He played great all year long," said Mitchell of his mobile senior. "We pull our center, which is a hard thing to do. You get a center that can do that once every few years."

Stoll was named to the first team at both running back and safety, despite playing the latter for only half a season. His quiet demeanor lies in stark contrast to his loud actions on the field.

"Any statement wouldn't be enough about him," says Mitchell. "His contribution is invaluable as a player and a student. He gave us absolutely all he had."

Kyle Meschko was a first-team selection at two positions, receiver and corner. Will Andrews was the only other Bulldog to be first-team twice, at punter and linebacker.

Kyle Gibson was first-team kicker and second-team corner, and Jeremiah Hatch was first-team o-line and second-team d-line.

Austin Jones and Brian Buck were both first-team o-line. Nick Hawkins (DL), Mat Lawrence (LB) and Tyler Jinright (CB) were first-team defenders.

Ryan Armbruster (QB), Matt Shay (TE), Dan Hanson (RB), Nate Rench (WR), and Jimmy Byers (OL) were second-team selections on offense. Taylor Morris (DE) and Ethan Vest (LB) were second-team defenders.
