Positive changes have ski resort bustling

| February 27, 2008 8:00 PM

There is something going on at Schweitzer.

All a person has to do is spend some time at Schweitzer Mountain Resort this year to see that Tom Chasse and his crew have things figured out.

First of all, there is the customer service. I have been skiing 14 times this year and every Schweitzer employee - from the liftees to the clerks to the folks in the rental area - are smiling, having a good time and are very interested that customers are having a great time.

In today's Bee, the second BonnerBIZ magazine is included and focuses on Schweitzer. With Cory Murdock's photography and Dave Gunter's writing, readers will have a good idea what is going on at our dynamic ski resort.

Whether you ski or not, Schweitzer has an impact on our lives and our economy. Many people list Schweitzer as one of the quality of life ingredients whether they live here or are planning to move here.

So it is important to all of us that Schweitzer has its act together. It does.

Take for example the inexpensive night skiing Friday and Saturday nights as well as the Sunday afternoon half-day special. A person can ski all three days for less than $30.

I know many locals who have purchased the inexpensive Sunday though Friday season pass and have skied more times this year than they have in years.

Chasse said the specials work. He was addressing business leaders this week and said his crew noticed a lot of skiers in “jeans with long, straight skis” this year.

Schweitzer and downtown merchants still need to work together to benefit both and it appears there is some work going on in that direction.

Congratulations, Schweitzer, on the many positive changes occurring on “our mountian” and continued good luck.
