Charland, Pepperdine and Goodman lead Bulldogs over Hawks

MOSCOW — Peyton Dillon (103 pounds) and Garret Belgarde (112) each registered two pins, and Leonard Fister picked up two quality wins to lead the Bulldogs, who fell 54-21 to Moscow and beat Lakeland 42-39 in a double dual Thursday night at the Bear Den.

All three wrestlers are currently state-ranked in their respective weight classes, and all three figure to vie for state titles.

In the dual against Lakeland, it was a less-heralded trio of wrestlers who came up big and helped propel the Bulldogs to a win despite forfeiting five weight classes to the Hawks. Pat Charland wrestled up two weight classes and scored a second period pin at 189 pounds, and Justin Pepperdine (171) and Troy Goodman (135) each registered second period pins in a dual where every point counted.

“Charland pursued his technique and it paid off,” said Sandpoint head coach Mike Randles. “Pepperdine came out and absolutely attacked, as did Troy, and it gave us a pretty big boost.”

Sandpoint was forced to forfeit in a couple weight classes due to injury, but should have the spots filled before the district meet next Saturday at Lakeland High School.
