SANDPOINT β€” Sandpoint Slammers girls basketball recently finished up the 2009-10 Post Falls League season. All coaches report individual as well as team improvements on both offense and defense, a better understanding of the game, and learning to play together as a team. The girls learned that the goal of becoming a good basketball player takes individual work beyond the practice court, and does not just happen overnight, or over a short season. By all reports, the girls are excited to take their game to higher levels in the future.

Of course a successful season could not take place without support, and the Slammer Girls wish to extend a huge thank you to all our those who have helped make this possible. The dream of future Sandpoint girls basketball success is alive and well thanks to you guys. Thank you to all the individual team sponsors, as well as our general sponsor, which made it possible to field five Slammer girls teams this year.

To the hardworking coaches and team managers who volunteered more time than you know, we obviously owe a huge debt of thanks. To the Slammer parents we truly appreciate your support and understanding. We would also like to recognize all of the LPOSD facilities department staff for their assistance with helping us obtain sufficient court practice times, especially Margaret Schell, Leslie Wright and Kathy at Farmin Stidwell, as well as the other facility coordinators in the district who helped keep the gym doors open to these girls.

We feel it’s a good time to be a part of the Sandpoint Slammer girls.

As we started last year with the Slammer Girls 7th grade team, we are extending the girls playing opportunities beyond the winter Post Falls League with more teams involved. Our door is always open for new player participation. We are planning to have spring and summer open gym opportunities specifically geared toward all girls in grades 3-7. These sessions will be open to all girls, all skill levels with no AAU or Slammer membership required! We also plan to assemble teams to participate in local tournaments in May, June and July, both structured five on five play in the gyms as well as 3 on 3 teams for outdoor tournaments, along with other opportunities to develop those skills. Stay tuned.
