Annual 6-Pack Alleycat Ride on tap Sunday

| July 13, 2013 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The 4th annual 6-Pack Alleycat Ride will be held on Sunday, July 14, at 2 p.m. at Greasy Fingers Bikes N’ Repair.

An Alley Cat race is an informal bicycle “race” — with an emphasis on taking part, rather than simple competition. Bicyclists will scour Sandpoint and the surrounding communities for six checkpoints around town with prizes awarded to the top finisher in each category.

Sponsored by Greasy Fingers, the Alleycat Ride has attracted a variety of riders and bicycles — from snow bikes to single-speed, tandems and cruisers. In its 4th year, the Alleycat supports local organizations and attracted more than 35 riders last year.

This year, proceeds from the event will benefit the Panhandle Animal Shelter, a private not for profit organization advocating adoption.

“The Alleycat is a great event for all cyclists of all levels. Its emphasis is on fun and not necessarily being the fastest. We have prizes for the top finishers and the last place finishers,” said Greasy Fingers owner Brian Andrson. “As a pet owner, I’m honored that the Alleycat will support the Animal Shelter this year.”
