Mitchell leads Bulldogs in sweep of Spartans

| May 1, 2013 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Senior Mamie Mitchell laced a triple and a double and drove in three runs, and Casey Bottomley allowed just six hits and struck out 10 to lead Sandpoint to a 12-2, 13-3 sweep of Priest River in nonleague softball action Tuesday during Senior Day at Sandpoint Middle School.

“Mamie hit two shots, she really got us going,” said Bulldogs head coach Derek Dickinson. “We swung the bats today, one through nine.”

Jordan Speelmon continues to swing a hot bat for the Bulldogs (6-10), tallying three hits on the day and driving in three runs, and was part of a strong showing by the seniors. Bottomley, Mitchell, Speelmon, Autumn Smith and Jessica Strickland were each honored between games.

“All five seniors played really well tonight,” said Dickenson. “We were making solid contact and being aggressive.”

A pair of freshman also had big days at the plate, as Bre Williams finished with four hits and four RBIs, and Cody Baldree had two hits and scored four times.

Ayonna Lentz had two hits and double in defeat for the Spartans (10-11), who had trouble mustering much offense against Bottomley.

Sandpoint travels south to face Moscow in the final two regular season games of the season today, and a win would help them secure the No. 2 seed in the district tournament.
