Free avalanche workshops offered this winter

SANDPOINT — The Idaho Panhandle National Forest Avalanche Center will conduct several free workshops to boost your avalanche awareness, open to any and all members of the community.

Pre-register with Sandpoint Parks and Recreation by calling 263-3613, and leaving your name and phone number. Classes will held at 6 p.m. and will be located in the conference room in the new Forest Service Building in Sandpoint, 1602 Ontario St. west of town, on the way to Dover.

Workshops to choose from are listed below, and you can attend as many as you like.

• Dec. 10 — Beacon Practice Avy Gear Review at 6 p.m.

• Jan. 7 — Avalanche Rescue 6 p.m.

• Jan. 16 — Idaho P & R/IPAC Snowmobile Avy Awareness, TBA.

• Feb. 11— Fire and Ice, Risk Assessment and Situational Awareness at 6 p.m.
