| June 25, 2016 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Anyone looking to learn a more non-competitive, nonviolent form of self defense is encouraged to sign up for three upcoming Aikido classes, which start up on July 5 in Sandpoint.

Aikido Idaho and Takayama dojo, located at 521 Cedar St., brings more than 30 years of authentic Japanese martial arts experience to Idaho.

Aikido Idaho teaches a martial art which focuses on flexibility, body awareness, balance and stability in motion. Students learn to grow both internally and externally through experiencing formality, discipline, sharing and challenge. With time students learn what it means to be a responsible member of a safe and caring community.

The first class, Aikido for kids (7-14 years-old), will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, from July 6-27, at 3:30-4:45 each day in the Takayam dojo.

The class fee is $80/child ($2 city discount) and includes a gi (uniform). Partial scholarships are available upon request.

The second class, Aikido for Teens (14-19 years-old), will take place on Mondays and Thursdays, from July 7 – 28, with the Monday class meeting at 5:15-6 p.m., and the Thursday class from 4:30-5:15 p.m. each day.

The class fee is $90/participant ($2 city discount) and includes a gi. Partial scholarships are available.

The final class is Aikido for Adults, and will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from July 5-27 from noon to 1:30 p.m. each day.

The class fee is $89/participant ($2 city discount) and includes a gi.
