Indoors and OUt, area's music joints are a-rockin'

SANDPOINT — It’s that magical time of year when we dust off the folding chairs, grab our favorite blanket and pull out that bottle of vino we’ve been saving for a special occasion – yep, The Festival at Sandpoint is upon us! The fun starts tonight with the fabulous Pink Martini and rolls right on through the weekend with non-stop concert action.

In other entertainment news, the Kalispel Tribe hosts its annual powwow celebration this weekend just north of Newport, East Bonner County Library is doubling down with insanely good deals at its monthly the Bonner County History Museum invites you to visit for free from 8-noon.

Thursday, Aug. 3

Pink Martini at The Festival at Sandpoint

Venue: Memorial Field, Ontario Street, Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7:30 p.m.

An evening with the ‘little orchestra’ from Portland, Ore., with a wildly diverse repertoire who draw inspiration from music from all over the world.

Scott Taylor

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., Sandpoint.

Time: 6 p.m.

Scott Taylor is back at the Beer Hall with his guitar. He doesn’t play a lot so don’t miss this chance to see a local talent.

Holus Bolus

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Holus Bolus means ‘All At Once’ and is a one person, multi-instrumentalist act featuring Tom Boylan. Referred to as the ‘One-Man-Psychedelic-Acousti-loop’ artist, Holus Bolus is the modern take on what a one-man-band is in this day and age. Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Friday, Aug. 4

B-52s at The Festival at Sandpoint

Kalispel Tribe 42nd Annual Powwow Celebration

Venue: Kalispel Indian Reservation Powwow Grounds (across the Pend Oreille River from Usk, Wash., about 15 miles north of Newport).

Time: Grand Entry at 7 p.m.

It’s the best Native gathering in the region! Open to all peoples to attend and economically competitive for Native dancers and stick game tournament players, with food and craft vendors offering their wares.

Riff Hangers

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Making their 219 debut outside on the patio, this five-piece acoustic band will entertain you with a variety of country, blues, swing and folk music.

Family Concert at The Festival at Sandpoint

‘The Frog Prince’ with music by Jules Massenet and choreography by Marc Spielberger. The concert features The Festival Community Orchestra and Sandpoint’s Studio 1 dancers. Favorite pre-concert activities include the Instrument Petting Zoo (where kids can try out various instruments with guidance from musical mentors), an animal petting zoo, pony rides, clowns, face painting, games galore and the popular Parents’ Corner where moms and dads can take a break from the chaos for a complimentary mini-massage.

Charley Packard Memorial Concert at The Festival at Sandpoint

A tribute to Sandpoint legendary singer-songwriter Charley Packard who passed away this year. Proceeds from this additional Festival concert will benefit the scholarship fund which was established in his name to perpetuate his lifelong mentorship of young musicians.
