Fatally injured jogger identified

PRIEST RIVER — Idaho State Police have identified the jogger who was fatally struck by a log truck on Thursday as Katherine Rose Malone of Nashville.

State police said Jesse R. Flory was negotiating a left-hand curve when he came across Malone in the roadway. The fully loaded log truck overturned and a portion of the truck struck Malone, who died at the scene, according to ISP.

State police said the crash remained under investigation on Monday. State police said Flory, a 22-year-old Bonners Ferry resident, was not wearing a seat belt, but did not specify if he was injured when the 1992 Kenworth truck overturned.

Malone was on a run near her family’s cabin on the Pend Oreille River, according to her obituary.

Malone was born in Orange, Calif., to James and Jennie Rose. She attended Avondale West Elementary School, Jardine Middle School, Topkea High School and is a graduate of University of Kansas.

After working on Capitol Hill, Katie moved to Nashville in 2007.

She was a member of the Robertson County Runners, Nashville Junior League, P.E.O. and Westminster Presbyterian Church, the obituary said.

Malone is survived by her daughter, Rosie; her parents, Jim and Jennie Rose; her brother and family, John, Amy and nephew, Will; a step-sister and niece, Jeanette Rose and Haley Macfarland; former husband, Patrick; in-laws, Mike and Sue Malone; and sisters-in-law, Erin and Lauren Malone.

A memorial service is planned for today at First Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas.

A second memorial service is set for Friday, Aug. 11, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville.
