| February 21, 2017 12:00 AM

Alan was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, to parents John and Laurene Boehm. He grew up in Clark Fork, Idaho, and graduated from there in 1966. After graduation, he went on to attend North Idaho College and later received his bachelor’s degree from New York University.

He enlisted in the Army, where he served for 22 years with the CID in the Law Enforcement division where he achieved the rank of CW4. While in the service Alan received many commendations, which included two Bronze Stars, along with the Meritorious Service Medal. He was stationed in various locations throughout his career, including Hawaii, Vietnam and Japan.

After retiring from the military he went to work for the Justice Depart-ment of Montana with the State Crime Lab in Missoula, Mont., as a firearms examiner. His work ethic was exemplary and he was known throughout the United States for his work. He worked in this capacity for 12 years until a tragic accident forced him to retire. His friend, and co-worker, Dr. Gary Dale, called him the most thoughtful person he knew. His stepson, Chris, described him as an “officer and a gentlemen.”

While stationed in Hawaii, Alan married his first wife, Diane, in 1970. They had two children, Alan Jr. and Heather. He always felt they were his greatest accomplishments. He has three granddaughters, Samantha, Sydney, and Rylan. He was a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and mentor.

Alan enjoyed hunting, fishing, gold panning, collecting coins and Indian Artwork which he displayed in his basement “museum.”

Alan lived in LoLo, Mont., with his partner of 16 years, Connie. They moved to Spokane, Wash., in 2015 and were married a year later.
