Mobile food bank set for Thursday

| July 19, 2017 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Second Harvest Inland Northwest in partnership with Thrivent Financial and Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church will hold a mobile food bank distribution on Thursday, July 20, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1900 Pine St.

Second Harvest’s mobile food bank program gets nutritious fresh foods to hungry people in rural and urban communities served by food pantries that don’t always have refrigeration to safely handle perishable products. “Getting donated food to where it’s needed most is one of our biggest challenges,” said Jason Clark, Second Harvest’s President and CEO. “The Mobile Food Bank program has helped us move thousands of pounds of food to communities throughout Eastern Washington and North Idaho. This program has been incredibly successful in getting food to hungry people.”

Second Harvest’s mobile food bank distributions work well thanks to partner agencies and sponsors who help with volunteers and funding. Second Harvest utilizes refrigerated trucks to deliver product and volunteers distribute the food to hundreds of families and seniors who would otherwise be unable to afford many of the nutritious items.

No documentation is needed to benefit from this event. Simply arrive early and bring your own box. The event will end at 1pm, or whenever the food supply runs out.
