The Stahl cartoon displayed June 26 was quite timely and insightful for rational thinkers. Doubt I share political views with Stahl, but can hope his cartoon stirs others to consider history.

The woman aside a child was looking out to Ellis Island/Lady Liberty and is depicted thinking “what do I tell her this means?” What a simple message for parents and teachers today. Unlikely in today’s emotional charged society, but I so hope those who speak to children will teach and speak the history, the factual truth, not their individual emotional views.

Lady Liberty, symbol of freedom resides on Ellis Island, the U.S. port of entry from 1892 through 1954. Ellis Island history foundation states that approximately 12 million immigrants were processed; went through legal and medical inspections and provided they were healthy and honest they entered the USA. USA has the similar policies today, yes changes due to evolving issues for our country but provided immigrants show respect to our border policies and arrive at government points of entry the Lady Liberty symbol continues as a USA virtue.

Sad that that decades of political positioning by Congress and the executive branch have created the swampy mess of today. All in USA should read through our immigration history, process definition and summary, wonder if Stahl understands the answer to his cartoon? If interested a nice website @ libertyellisislandfoundation.org

Proudly celebrate our USA on the Fourth of July.
