Library has you covered for summer

| July 6, 2018 1:00 AM

If local history proves true, we should be getting a steady dose of summer starting now. Some people love the hotter weather (me) while others do all they can to escape it. Whichever category you fall into, The Library has you covered.

This time of year, we are all about encouraging reading. But, that doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors to do it. Grab a book or audiobook from one of our branch libraries or, if you can’t bear to go indoors, download an ebook or e-audiobook from the Digital Library at ebonnerlibrary.org. With all of those options, you can read just about anywhere; in the car, at the beach, on the boat - you get the picture.

StoryWalk is fun no matter how old or young you are, but it is more fun if you can take some little ones with you. They love to read the pages along the trail and act out the scenes. There is a new book posted each month on the Dover City Park and McNearny Park trails.

You can even enjoy some of our events outside this month. Mother Goose and Family Story Times are moving outside and becoming Story Times in the Park for the month of July. Catch those at Travers Park on Tuesday mornings. STEM in the Park also gets kids outside.

If you like to spend summer evenings outdoors … in the cemetery, join us for Spooky Stories in the Cemetery on Friday the 13th at Lakeview Park on Elm Street (no joke).

We hope you’ll join us at the new library garden site as we break ground and get to work. This is not a “ground breaking ceremony” with a gold shovel and dignitaries wearing hard hats. This is a dig in the dirt — wear work clothes and sunscreen — kind of ground breaking. It is going to be a lot of fun and we could use your help. Feel free to come just learn about the garden too.

You’ll find me outside, but if you like the indoors, there is plenty of discovery, connection, and lifelong learning to be had inside The Library too. We hope to see you at one or more of the events below.
