July 24, 1968 – STRAIGHT A STUDENTS

One hundred and forty-five University of Idaho students earned straight A averages in second semester course work, it was announced.

Named from Sandpoint are Nancy Sue Eakin and Sharon Taccogna. Anita Robinson, Sagle; Ted Pursley, Leland Allen Gray and Steve J. Strecker, all now of Moscow, are also on the list.

CONDITIONING PROGRAM FRIDAY

Ken Beaudoin, new Sandpoint High School football coach, announces a five-week physical conditioning program beginning this Friday at 7 p.m. at the practice field behind the high school.

The program is open to anyone interested in conditioning, but will be geared primarily to junior and senior high school ages. All others of any age are welcome. The schedule calls for 1½ hour sessions each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, consisting of weight lifting, agility drills, circuit training and a game called speed ball.

CHRIS CLARK GETS MVP AWARD

Chris Clark, Sandpoint, was voted the most valuable player at the Cougar Cage Camp at WSU last week. The boys at the basketball clinic were divided into “major” and “minor” leagues. Clark’s MVP award was in the major league.

Clark was a three-sport letterman at SHS last year as a junior and is one of the leading hitters on the local American Legion baseball team.

July 24, 1918 – PATRIOTIC MEETING

A patriotic mass meeting will be held at Liberty theater, July 22, at 1 o’clock p.m. to honor fifty-three of our soldiers who depart that day for the front. It is expected that all business houses of the city will close from 12:30 p.m. until after the boys depart. By Order Defense Council

EARLY CLOSING ORDER MODIFIED

Food Administrator Park has an order modifying somewhat the rules governing the opening and closing of stores. All general stores may open at 7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Drug stores, soda fountain and soft drink stands may open at 7 a.m. and must close at 10 p.m. Hotels, restaurants, boarding houses, lunch rooms and all places serving meals or lunches for pay may open at 5 a.m. and must close at 6 p.m. These rules apply every week day except Saturday when all places of business may remain open until 11 p.m.

CITY BREVITIES

North Idaho WCTU members are supporting four French orphans, at $36.50 each, per year.

Deputy Sheriff Reem went to Spokane Tuesday with two slackers who were turned over to Fort Wright and inducted into military service.

A Polish alien was turned over to the authorities at Newport Wednesday by Deputy Sheriff Reem and will be inducted into the army from there.
