Class A Lakers split doubleheader with Camas-Prairie
GRANGEVILLE — The class A North Idaho Lakers earned a split at Camas-Prairie (Grangeville) on Friday night by winning the nightcap 14-7.
The 19U American Legion squad now sits at 8-14 overall, and 5-4 in North Idaho League play.
Mike Riley was feeling it at the plate during the doubleheader. Across the two games, he went 7 for 9 with three RBIs.
In the opener, Camas scored five runs in the first inning to gain a stranglehold on the game. They held the Lakers to five hits en route to a 8-3 win.
Jack Ringer started on the mound. He allowed seven runs over five innings while striking out a pair. Zeke Roop came in for an inning and allowed one run.
The Laker offense came alive in the closer. The team racked up 14 hits in a comfortable victory over Camas.
The scored was tied 2-2 after three innings, but the Lakers put up 12 runs in the next three innings, including seven in the sixth.
Avery Bocksch blasted a two-run homer to center field in the top of the first. Finn Mellander went 3 for 5 and hit a two-run homer in the fifth. Koby Barlow and Roop each two hits.
Everett Hannah relieved Bocksch on the mound in the third inning and threw five strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings while surrendering three earned runs.
The Lakers return to action Tuesday when they head to St. Maries for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
The class B Lakers hit the field today for a Spokane League doubleheader with Rogers starting at 9 a.m. at Pine Street Field.
