Quality Education Act has nothing to do with learning

| July 6, 2021 1:00 AM

I am writing in response to the article about the initiative drive sponsored by Reclaim Idaho, and dishonestly named "Quality Education Act." This "act" has nothing to do with education. It is designed after the left-wing liberal strategy of making teacher's unions into powerful political juggernauts. If you want to see the the results of this type of political action, look no further than the California teachers unions. Look at what they did during the pandemic. Refusing to go back into the classrooms because they are "scared," even after being vaccinated. The unions are so powerful they even directed the CDC's written response to this refusal.

This group dresses up their political activism as grassroots. It is nothing of the kind. More money means bigger and bigger salaries for teachers which results in bigger and bigger political action committee contributions and bigger and bigger power until the tail is wagging the dog. Then the teachers union is free to teach the racism and division of critical race theory, sex education for children in the third grade and countless other social engineering programs that do nothing to prepare students to succeed in society.

And I would like to know why this "group" gets to decide who earns too much money, and thus entitles them to raise their taxes to fund their social welfare programs. I don't earn over $250,000 a year so why do I get to vote to take other family's money? I have no skin in the game but I can say "oh well, doesn't affect me, let them tax. " This is a left-wing power grab modeled on the socialist ideology that has been so successful in other States. Don't let thisĀ  happen to Idaho. Once they social justice warriors get a foothold, they are like fire ants, you can't get rid of them.
