Ponderay hosting bike rodeo

| May 14, 2021 1:00 AM

Did you know that Ponderay’s McNearney Park has a bicycle pump track and skills loop?

Join Ponderay city officials, staff and first responders for food and fun, Saturday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at McNearney Park, as we focus on bicycle safety at Ponderay’s first McNearney Park Bicycle Rodeo.

The bike rodeo will be held at McNearney Park, located on Dustarr Lane, behind the Better Together Animal Alliance. This event is open to children of all ages and will include bicycle safety checks, opportunities to learn about bicycle safety and then the opportunity to practice those skills, city officials said in a press release.

Pre-registration is not required; participants just need to visit the registration tent upon their arrival. Children must be accompanied by an adult to register.

Ponderay officials invite community members to bring their families to the park for the festivities. Kids should bring their bike or scooter and helmet, if they have one. Those without helmets, or whose helmet no longer fits, may be able to receive a new one for free thanks to events sponsors, Ting Crazy Fast Fiber Internet and Ponderay Rotary, while supplies last. Local first responders will be available to help families to safely fit the helmets on site.

Once participants have honed their skills and made sure their equipment is in tip-top shape, they’re invited to compete for prizes at 2 p.m. Activities will include a freestyle competition on the pump track and a toddler bike/trike drag race.

This free event will also include a community barbecue hosted by the city of Ponderay. Community members are invited to join the city for lunch, and learn about what’s new with Ponderay’s Field of Dreams and The Front Yard Project.
