The Sandpoint Sharks attended their final regular long course meet of the season last weekend in Moses Lake at the Sizzlin Summer Splash swim meet.

Several teams from surrounding areas were competing, including teams from Canada and Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

“We swam against a few teams we haven’t met before,” Sandpoint Sharks coach Sara Zwink said. “They brought some fast swims and our swimmers stepped up to the competition.”

Several swimmers notched large time drops including Lou Foust, who dropped 26 seconds off her time in the 200 IM with a time of 3:01.77.

Myelle Jensen won the 200 free with a time of 2:44.41. 24 seconds ahead of the second place finisher..

With this being the last meet to qualify for Long Course Junior Olympics, the Sharks felt the pressure to perform.

“Terra Converse really kicked it into gear,” Zwink said. “She crushed qualifying times in the 200 back with a time of 3:03.73 and in the 200 free with a time of 2:47.75. Terra is always the first swimmer in the pool during practice and is constantly asking how to improve her stroke and technique. It was exciting to see her hard work

pay off.”

Also leaving seconds in the pool was Ayiana Prevost with a seven-second time drop in the

200 breast (3:20.63). McCoy Jensen notched a two-second drop in the 100 breast (1:26.68).

Ryleigh Bamer dropped four seconds in the 200 butterfly (3:03.31).

Nine Sharks qualified for the Long Course Junior Olympics on July 22-24 in Pasco.
