Decathlon team awarded

The Priest River Academic Decathlon team took these awards at the Regional Competition: Speech, Samantha Salazar; bronze, Samantha Lucas; Interview, Sharyl Dovale, silver; Music, Tony DeMent and Jessica Jones, bronze; Spirit, Ms. Earle.

Bond is chosen

Priest River’s most recent winner of the Elks Club student of the month was Meeka Bond.

30 Years Ago — 1992

Turned in found money

Hats off to Dawn Skiles, who found a brown wallet containing $214 in cash and bank cards on Main Street and turned it in Monday at City Hall.

40 Years Ago — 1982

Seek to renovate school

Marc and Sue Brinkmeyer’s application for a conditional use permit, if granted, will allow them to construct professional offices at the old Laclede School site.

50 Years Ago — 1972

Gus Verdal, Kaniksu National Forest representative, discussed various aspects of the Forest’s tentative wilderness candidates at the regular meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. His wife, who was present, is the former Mary Harp of Priest River.

60 Years Ago — 1962

Townteam wins

The Priest River Townteam had a lion by the tail when they challenged the Allstar Vets Alumni in an exhibition game in the high School gym. The Townteam won in the fourth quarter by only four points.

70 Years Ago — 1952

Governor protests proposal

Gov. Len Jordon asked the navy to call off its proposed explosive tests in Lake Pend Oreille. He said the proposal had received “overwhelming protests” in northern Idaho.

80 Years Ago — 1942

Spartans surprised everyone

Contrary to the beliefs of some of the Panhandle coaches, Coach Nick’s Spartans came through the tournament in a blaze of glory as Panhandle Tourney champions.

90 Years Ago — 1932

Game warden find grisly

Game Warden Robertson reported finding one deer at the lake that had been killed by coyotes and one that had been partially eaten alive. The hip of this deer had been partially eaten away, as was also its one side, although it still had vitality enough to run off. The deer was followed and shot.

100 Years Ago — 1922

New postmaster takes over

Warren P. Jones has received an appointment as acting postmaster at Priest River and the office was turned over to him by Miss Nora Murray, one of the best officials that could hold the office. Mr. Jones is a life-long resident of Priest River.
