CLARKSTON — The Sandpoint tennis team had an exceptional day one at the Clarkston tournament on Friday, March 18.

The Bulldogs will have four number one seeds heading into tournament play today.

“Basically all the girls got byes,” Sandpoint tennis coach Kent Anderson said. “It was a shockingly good day for us.”

Neva Reseska got redemption against Lewiston’s Rylei Carper on Friday.

The two faced off in Reseska’s second match of the day and she defeated Carper 4-2, 4-1.

“ (Neva) Reseska was on the dominant side today,” Anderson said. “She is getting better and better at doing the same stuff she’s been doing.”

Reseska will be the number one seed heading into tournament play today for the number one girls single bracket.

Maise Brazill continued her reign of terror as well and got the number one seed in the girls number two singles bracket.

Brazill finished Friday three and one and only dropped three sets in three matches.

“She does the same thing that she always does,” Anderson said. ”She has the shot, and the smarts; she just rules the number two singles. It’s a riot.

The third number one seed for Sandpoint heading into today is the girls number three singles player Adrian Doty.

Doty finished 3-0 through day one of the tournament with wins over Mead, Pullman, and Lewiston.

“She’s a fighter and does not give up points,” Anderson said. “She wins almost every single time that she steps onto the court.”

Sandpoint’s number two girls doubles team rounds up the number one seeds for tomorrow. Patch Howard, and Maile Evans.

“They’re going up against these bigger schools and they’re just attacking the net,” Anderson said. “They’re confident and have quick hands.”

For the boys, Tyler Korn and Jacob Dawson played well enough to win their matches but fell in three more extra set matches.

“ (Tyler) Korn looked like the best player on the court today,” Anderson said. “Not taking anything away from (Jacob) Dawson, but Tyler looked great.”

“These matches will only help them get better as the year goes on, but for now it's definitely tough on both of them.”

The single elimination portion of the Clarkston tournament begins today throughout four different locations at the Lewis-Clark Valley.

Lewiston high school, Lewiston’s old high school, Clarkston high school, and Lewis-Clark State College.
