Oct. 27, 1972 – SOLID WASTE EFFORT SLOWS

Efforts to solve the county’s solid-waste disposal problem are at a standstill. Jack Ross, Panhandle Health District supervisor, requested extension of dump-closing deadlines until June, 1973. He hasn’t heard back from Idaho’s Dept. of Environmental Protection & Health, but expects to get the delay, as “there isn’t much the county can do until spring.”

BAZAAR BURGLARY SUSPECT SOUGHT

Investigation continues this week into a Sandpoint Community Hall burglary in which exhibits valued at $700 - $1,000 were stolen from the All Bonner-County Bazaar, sponsored by the Sandpoint Civic Club. Entry to the hall was gained some time Friday night by forcing a rear window. Items were stolen from virtually every bazaar exhibit.

BOYER PAVING STARTED

Les Peak Paving paved the rebuilt block of Boyer north of the Great Northern road. This section of road was lowered three feet to meet the future track level of Burlington Northern’s new high speed rail line. The roadway got quite messy during recent rains, giving a glimpse of what would be ahead if the section was unpaved during the winter. The county’s work of extending the airport runway and taxi strip is nearly done. Peak will do this job next, if weather permits. The airport’s runway is being extended 600 ft. at the northeast end, making up for that which was lost to the B.N.’s new crossover track.

Both are celebrated shots but the total for the day’s hunt was one pheasant. When Mr. Farmin arrived home, he found that the Farmin family had been as successful as he was, for a pheasant, in flying against a window pane at the house, had broken its neck.
