SANDPOINT – Sandpoint was defeated by Lewiston, 11-0, and 14-3, in both halves of a doubleheader at War Memorial Field on Saturday, April 22.

In Game 1, Sandpoint struggled at the plate. The Bulldogs lone hit came from Cadence Skibitsky in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Besides the hit from Skibitsky, Lewiston’s Ashland Schnell was near-perfect throwing a full six innings and recording seven strikeouts. Lewiston’s catcher, Loryn Barney led the Bengals with two hits and two RBIs in Game 1. Lewiston scored at least one run in every inning except the fifth.

In Game 2, Sandpoint was yet again not able to contain Lewiston’s offense. The Bengals were leading 7-0 after the first two innings.

In the fourth inning, with the Bulldogs down 14-0, Ashlyn Darling got the Sandpoint on board with an RBI single to right field. The very next at-bat Peyton Cessna tripled to right field to score Darling; she was then brought home by Kaylee McCown, 14-3 Bengals.

The Bulldogs had four hits in Game 2, but the most important one was a single from Bella Crum in the bottom of the third inning. Crum, a senior, has struggled with injuries all season and got a chance to play on Sandpoint’s senior day.

The Bulldogs will be back in action for a doubleheader versus Moscow on Tuesday, April 25 at War Memorial Field.
