Vote no on proposed WBCSD levy

| April 26, 2023 1:00 AM

Do you want lower taxes? Vote no on the West Bonner County School District's levy. It’s that simple, vote no.

The levy of West Bonner County School District is ridiculous. I would like to make several observations.

  1. Why are only homeowners being taxed? There are many legal residents that live in the school district but don’t own homes. They go free. Many homeowners are struggling just to make their monthly mortgage payments.
  2. The responsibility of the schools belongs to the Idaho Legislature and the governor. If they would do their job, schools would not have to ask for more money. That is not their purpose nor should be their area of purview.
  3. Everyone already pays taxes for the schools through their state income tax payments and now schools tag on an additional tax. This is definitely double taxation.
  4. If the people will stand up and be heard by voting no, no new taxes, and if the school feels they need additional money, the Legislature should and will have to wake up and provide that.
  5. Did you know that the Idaho Legislature has just allocated additional monies for the school district for the coming year? In addition, the state has a very large reserve that could be used for education but they would rather have the schools tax their people.

It is time for the people to just say no more and vote no. The schools will survive and it won’t decrease the education of the students. Get the parents to do the job they should be doing also in educating their children.
