Don't elect those who don't support transparency

| April 27, 2023 1:00 AM

Why is transparency so undesired by our elected officials? The upcoming May election provides us with choices that reward transparency. What is missing from the May ballot is the county commissioner’s non-binding advisory ballot question that would have addressed land use of county property.

The Pend Oreille Hospital and East Bonner County Library districts all comprise self-identifying “Republican Party” candidates. Unfortunately, all the incumbents have voted for 3% annual tax increases, and will again, arguably without need, as constituents were put out of work during the COVID-19 lock-down period. Each incumbent was unreasonably strict in maintaining mask mandates. Each incumbent also chose to NOT answer the 2023 Bonner County Republican Central Committee, the official Republican Party sentinel, 15-question survey that would have been posted at www.BonnerGOP.org for voter review. Not a single incumbent should receive a vote.

Stacy Rodriguez is endorsed by the BCRCC and most deserving of Republican votes as EBCL trustee. I recommend that Cynthia Buse be elected as the POHD trustee, the seat I vacated under the principle of self-imposed term limits. None of the EBCL and POHD, and BoCC incumbents deserve a Republican’s vote.

The omitted non-binding advisory ballot question was supported by all BoCo elected constitutional officers: assessor, clerk, coroner, prosecutor, sheriff, treasurer, and BoCC Williams, excepting, dissenting Commissioners Bradshaw and Omodt, for less than good transparency cause.
