SANDPOINT – With only 21 seconds left in the game, Sandpoint’s Blayne Kanning put the Bulldogs ahead 11-10, with a line drive shot to the bottom right corner of the net. Sandpoint held on to defeat Lake City on senior day at War Memorial Field.

It was a back-and-forth game as neither the Bulldogs or Timberwolves could maintain a comfortable lead. Sandpoint scored three unanswered goals to start off the game, but that three-point lead would not last long. At the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs only led by one goal, 4-3.

As halftime neared, Sandpoint found themselves trailing 6-5 after some costly penalties. Maksym Page was able to tie the game up at six by scoring his third goal of the game in just the second quarter. Page had a total of five goals against Lake City.

“We played as a team throughout the game. We got key stops from our goalie, our midfield was stellar, and our defense was just as good. Of course, my linemates on attack also helped us pull off the win,” Page said.

During the third, the Bulldogs fell behind 9-8, but they would end up finding a rhythm offensively.

In the fourth, the Bulldogs scored a couple more goals to tie the game up at 10. With five minutes remaining, neither team could find an edge until the final shot and goal of the match by Blayne Kanning that secured the Bulldogs 11-10 victory.

“We knew that Lake City was going to be a tough opponent to beat due to getting defeated by them 14-6 last week. We practiced hard, watched film, and made adjustments. I was very impressed with the team’s performance; it was an amazing win on senior night,” Kanning said.

Head coach TR Page said it was great to see the team overcome their mistakes in previous games and dominate the possession time.

“I could not be happier for these boys,” Page said.

The Bulldogs will be back in action against the Logos School and Moscow High School on Saturday, April 29 in Moscow at 12 and 3 p.m., respectively.
