LEWISTON — Micah Young shot a season-best score of 85 as the Sandpoint boys golf team defeated Lakeland and others at the Lewiston Invite at the Lewiston Country Club on Tuesday.

Led by Young, the boys finished fifth out of seven teams with a total score of 366 on a tough golf course that does not have much room for error. Head coach Mike Deprez said Cooper Zimmerman and Tyler Weisz have remained consistent and posted solid scores; the two posted scores below 95 yet again. Logan McGrann saw his first varsity match of the season and scored a 102.

It was the closest the team has been to both Lewiston and Moscow this season; the Bulldogs were just nine strokes behind Moscow and 10 behind Lewiston.

For the girls, Alexa Tuinstra led the way with a score of 81. Deprez said despite putting challenges on the day, she still posted a good number. Deprez also said that Claire Loutzenhiser and Reagan Samuels have had more consistent contact and have been swinging well. The two both posted scores of 101 Tuesday.

The girls finished in third out of five full teams Tuesday, falling just shy of Rocky Mountain and Coeur d’Alene.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Monday, Aug. 28 at the Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course.
