Bulldogs bring home gold from Bonners Ferry Invite

BONNERS FERRY — Sandpoint’s boys and girls track teams both took first place at the Bonners Ferry Invite on Saturday.

North Idaho high school track athletes could not have asked for a more beautiful day to start their season. Eight teams were in attendance at Saturday’s meet, including Clark Fork, Priest River, and Sandpoint high schools. The three Bonner County schools all had strong showings, but Sandpoint ended up scoring the highest on both the boys and the girls side.

Rusty Lee led the way for the Bulldogs boys team. Lee was first in the 110m hurdles, 300m hurdles, high jump, and helped the 4x400 relay to victory on the anchor leg. Nathan Roche dominated the distance events for Sandpoint with two big PRs in the 1600 meters and 3200 meters to start the season.

For the Sandpoint girls, Aliya Strock and Maren Davidson dominated the field. Strock won the 200-meter dash and long jump while Davidson won the 400-meter dash and the 1600 meters. Three other Bulldogs took first in their respective events. Sandpoint also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relay.

Another Bonner County athlete who showed out on Saturday was Priest River’s Matyus McLain. The University of Idaho football commit won the discus with a throw of 137 feet and 8 inches. He also won the 100-meter dash with a blistering 11.68.

Both Priest River and Sandpoint’s track teams will be back in action at the Spokane Dolphin Invite at West Valley High School on Saturday, March 25.
