SANDPOINT – Sandpoint tennis defeated Coeur d’Alene Charter, 9-3 and Post Falls, 6-0 in a pair of matches this week to win their fourth match in four days.

The Bulldogs defeated Coeur d’Alene Charter on Wednesday, May 3, and Post Falls on Thursday, May 4 at Travers Park.

On Wednesday, May 3 against CDA Charter, Neva Reseska was the lone winner for Sandpoint girls singles, winning in a long three-set match, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5. Head coach Kent Anderson said her mental toughness was the difference in the incredibly tight match.

In girls doubles, Sandpoint’s Sydney Webb and Aubrey Knowles once again dominated their opponents, 6-1, 6-0. Maile Evans and Patch Howard, who have followed a similar pattern, also won 6-1, 6-0.

For the boys, Jacob Dawson, Matthew Norton and Ethan Ballard swept in the singles matches. All three Bulldogs defeated their opponents in two sets.

In boys doubles, Brennan Johnson and Ivan Steinbachs secured a victory in the number two match, 6-4, 6-0.

To round out the day in mixed doubles, Fisher Dail and Berkley Cox as well as Owen Larson and Adrian Doty both won their matches in two sets for the Bulldogs.

“Owen and Adrian teamed together for the first time today to see if mixed doubles was a fit for them. They both have strong groundstrokes and good placement; they won easily,” Anderson said.

On Thursday, Sandpoint tennis’ family day, the Bulldogs won all six of the matches that were played against Post Falls before the contest was called early due to lightning and rain.

Reseska and Maisie Brazill took home wins in girls singles. Reseska played a perfect match winning 6-0, 6-0. Brazill also took home a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Sydney Webb and Aubrey Knowles came back after a grueling first set to win the only girls doubles match, 0-6, 6-4, 10-8.

“Sydney and Aubrey’s comeback was one for the record books,” Anderson said. “The slow start was a combination of our girls having trouble finding their timing and Post Falls playing flawless points. On match point, Sydney ripped her serve return down the line to win it.”

For the boys, Dawson defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-1 for Sandpoint. Norton followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Evan Wiley and Aden Heitz won the only boys doubles match of the day, 6-3, 6-0.

Unfortunately, due to the rainout, sisters Maile and Lily Evans were not able to play their girls doubles match on family day. Couple Owen Larson and Patch Howard were also not able to complete their mixed doubles match.

Anderson believes this team is primed and ready for the district championship.

The Bulldogs (11-0) will be back in action versus Coeur d’Alene on Monday, May 8 at Travers Park.
