WRESTLING

Sandpoint 43, Moscow 36

MOSCOW — Sandpoint had four wrestlers who won by pin, but it was freshman Jensen Sheetz’s 6-4 win by decision at 152 pounds that ultimately helped the Bulldogs overcome the Bears at Moscow High Thursday night.

“Jensen came up huge last night in our win over Lake City,” head coach Josh Ratigan said. “Tonight, he won another huge match to keep the Bears out of reach and help us seal the win.”

Winning crucial matches by pin for the Bulldogs were Carter Happell (106), Aidan Rork (113), Ashlei Hawkins (132), and Shane Sherrill (138).

Sandpoint is idle until the 3A/4A IEL District Tournament set to be held at Sandpoint High on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Wampus Cats look strong despite being short-handed

Lakeside 80, Clark Fork 53

CLARK FORK – Cole Sanroman led the Wampus Cats with 20 points, six assists, and five rebounds in a loss to Lakeside at Clark Fork High on Thursday night.

Despite being down three starters, Clark Fork improved from their 40-point loss to the Knights just last week. The 27-point loss last night now becomes the closest a 1A team in Idaho has been to Lakeside all season long.

“Ethan (Howard), Owen (Howard), and Seth (Caven) sat out for us tonight due to injury,” head coach Heath Beason said. “That being said, we actually played a really good game… once again, the twins just tore it up (Chase and Cole Sanroman); they controlled that game on offense and defense. What I was proud of the most is the way we broke their press with a really aggressive attack. Our shots were falling tonight, but there are still some things we need to work on. They (Lakeside) dug deep knowing we didn’t have a bench and we played hard defense despite getting into a little bit of foul trouble. We let the chips fall where they are, and overall, we’re pretty happy with this outcome.”

Arrow Christofferson scored 15 points and hauled in eight rebounds. Chase Sanroman added 10 points, nine boards, and three assists. Westin Caven had three points, eight rebounds, six assists, and two steals for Clark Fork.

Clark Fork (9-5, 3-0) hosts Kootenai on Saturday.
