KELLOGG — Kellogg took both meetings from Priest River in Central Idaho League play, but the fifth-seeded Spartans took down the fourth-seeded Wildcats in convincing fashion in the 2A District 1-2 tournament play-in game at Andrews Gymnasium.

The Spartans led 14-7 after one quarter and 29-10 at halftime. Before the halftime buzzer, Carter Korff was able to convert a layup off a near full-court pass from Brock Kreager to extend the lead.

Priest River led by as much as 27 points, 43-16, with one minute remaining in the third quarter, and eventually put in their reserves later in the fourth.

Ian Lamanna led Priest River with a team-high 11 points. Palmer Coleman added nine points and seven rebounds. Sawyer Staudt had eight points and five steals. Lucas Mathews and Kreager both led the Spartans in assists with four each.

“They worked really hard tonight,” Kellogg head coach Mike Martin said of Priest River. “You could tell they were prepped and locked in with our stuff, and they did a good job executing what they were trying to do from the start. Hats off to them.”

St. Maries 49, Priest River 42

ST. MARIES — The fifth-seeded Spartans fought tooth and nail, but fell just shy of the top-seeded Lumberjacks in the 2A District 1-2 semifinals held Tuesday night at St. Maries High.

St. Maries started off the game on a 10-2 run, but Priest River rallied to take a 20-18 lead at halftime.

Down 43-37 with 1:28 left to play, Ian Lamanna hit a deep 3-pointer on the right wing to pull the Spartans within three points. However, St. Maries’ defense held up during the final minute of play to secure the victory.

Lamanna and Carter Cook each had eight points for the Spartans. Brock Kreager hauled in a team-high seven rebounds while Lucas Mathews recorded team-highs in assists (five) and blocks (three) for Priest River.

Priest River (6-14) will face third-seeded Grangeville in a loser-out consolation game Wednesday at Grangeville High. If victorious, the Spartans will face the loser of the championship game between St. Maries and Orofino; the winner of that match-up moves on to a 2A state play-in game.
